Two teams of two · Every ball counts

How to play Hi-Lo

Hi-Lo is a game for two teams of two with three points on every hole. Low ball against low ball is one point. High ball against high ball is another. Team total against team total is the third. Your partner’s worst score always matters.

The Surfer explains Hi-Lo: two-person teams, three points a hole — low ball, high ball and team total — so every ball counts. 20 seconds, captions on screen.

Three points, every hole

Compare each team’s better net score for the low-ball point, each team’s worse net score for the high-ball point, and the two scores added together for the team-total point. A tied point is dropped; it does not carry.

Why the high ball changes everything

In best-ball games a partner can carry you. In Hi-Lo, the worse score on your team has its own point and feeds the team total, so a double bogey costs you even when your partner makes birdie.

Hi-Lo in Turnt

Turnt plays Hi-Lo on net scores for two teams of two over 18 holes. Winning all three points on a hole earns three points, with no doubling. Each score is capped at net double bogey for the game.

At the end, the team behind on points owes the point difference times the agreed stake, and teammates share their team’s result. Equal totals are a tie.

Common questions

Can a hole be worth more than three points?

Not in Turnt’s version. A sweep is three points.

What happens to a tied point?

It is dropped. Nothing carries to the next hole.

Why cap scores at net double bogey?

It keeps one disaster from deciding the high-ball and total points for the whole hole, and it lets a player pick up and move on.
